Polylactic acid (PLA) is another biopolymer with environmental benefit. Polylactic acid (PLA) is a rigid thermoplastic polymer and can be semicrystalline or amorphous. The backbone of PLA is L(_)-lactic acid (2-hydroxy propionic acid) which is a natural and most common form of the acid.
